SWOT ANALYSIS - DIRECTOR

A)  WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

In terms of written communication, I would say this is one of my strong skills. For example, I am able to construct an email in a specific format which sounds formal.

However, a weakness which I have in this form of communication is that I sometimes struggle to condense my words and end up writing more than required.

As a director, written communication is important, because when helping to complete the pre-production material (e.g. script), feedback may have to be distributed to the team members in a written form instead of a verbal form (e.g. through email or a shared google drive).

B) VERBAL COMMUNICATION

In terms of verbal communication, I would say that this is also a strong skill of mine. For example, I am able to communicate with a range of people and enjoy meeting new people/talking to them.

However, a weakness which I have in this form of communication is that when things aren't going to plan, I struggle to communicate with people in a positive way.

As a director, verbal communication is important because while ensuring that every job is getting done, you have to communicate with everyone on set to ensure that they are okay and know what they are doing.

C) PRACTICAL

In terms of practical, I am not as confident in this category, however I do have some experience with using equipment.

As a director, this isn't so important since the directors role is more about ensuring that everything is done. However, while having this directing role, I will get the opportunity to learn more about the practical elements of film making by observing the work done by the cinematographer and grip.

D) CREATIVITY

In terms of creativity, I would say this is one of my strong skills. For example, I am able to combine ideas from other people to create an overall product which demonstrates creativity and imagination.

However, in terms of weakness', I would say that the task of first generating an idea which is unique and creative is something which I struggle to achieve.

As a director, being creative is important because if you are not creative with your work, the overall product will either be a copy of another persons work or it wont be interested/appealing for the desired target audience.
